"For this redesign, the existing space was dramatically opened-up, resulting in easier circulation and unblocked vistas from the outside in. Now the store buzzes with light and activity like a giant aquarium on Fifth Avenue. Inside, the scale of the entry hall recalls the grand spaces of New York’s legendary shopping emporiums. Beyond is an urban playground, where the store becomes a stage for a theater of toys with the children as the players and treehouselike structures are retreats for play. A ceiling lit by LEDs, a spectacular soda fountain, a flight simulator, a party room, a story-time area, an updated version of the famous giant piano keyboard, a Hot Wheels department with a giant V-8 engine, and antique and artisan toy shops are additional standouts."
