The statues are shrouded in mystery and after the horrible events that the Rapanui people endured over the centuries there are not records that can clearly explain the history of the people, the statues, and the island.
Project Description:
The people who arrived at Easter Island, Rapanui, carved moai out of volcanic stone to create massive statues to honour their ancestors. They moved the statues (averaging 13 feet tall and 14 tons) to different ceremonial structures on the island.
