Additional Information:
Official name: Quseir Amra. Location: Zarqa Governorate, Jordan. UNESCO World Heritage Site, cultural designation in 1985. Built: 705 AD. Elevation: 520m. Quseir Amra/Qasr Amra/Qusayr Amra is the best known of the dessert castles located in present-day Jordan. It is considered one of the most important examples of early Islamic art and architecture. The building is part of a larger complex that included the castle. It is significant in large part due to the frescoes that remain inside, depicting scenes of hunting, women and an accurate depiction of the zodiac.
