The huts are built by the Kassena people. Mud huts in the west region of Africa, which is known to be a poor area. Even though this is a poor area, the huts here are culturally rich as they are decorated by the women in the area, who believe that is is traditional to draw traditional patterns on the house, that are mostly inspired by religion. This hut is made from mud and earth and coated with the coating of a substance from the nearby locust bean tree, keeping it protected from the elements.

The colours have meanings: red symbolises courage; white represents honesty and purity; and black symbolises the night and the invisible world.
