Project Description:
Missoni, again, presents the viewer with a space that relies on the polka dot to unify the space. While several new elements, specifically red butterflies and vertical stripes, enter the space, it is the polka dot that dominates the space. It is not merely a suggestion, but instead a resounding presence that will not be denied. The use of the polka dot in this particular space highlights the femininity and perhaps frivolity of a red butterfly - the carefree fun of pattern and color. The polka dot detracts from the viewer's ability question, 'just what is this space? Is it truly functional?' Instead, the observer is caught up in the decorative swirl of emotionally engaging polka dots.
