Construction began in 1893, as on January 18, at 2:00 p.m, the first stone was laid.
The main architect who created many of the plans, Pedro Benoit, passed away in 1887, and his son Pedro J. Benoit took over planning and construction.
The Cathedral was inaugurated and blessed on February 12th, 1905.
In 1913 the parish house and baptistery were built adjacent to the sacristy.
In 1920 the crypt was built underneath the main Altar.
