Additional Information:
Francis Kere grew up in Gando and had to travel nearly 40 kilometers to go to school with bad lighting and ventilation. This inspired Kere to study architecture and with the help of fundraising and community, the Gando Primary School became his first building. The entire community helped build the school.
The school won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture 2004 and the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture 2009.

Project Description:
The school is built with adobe brick in order for there to be ventilation. It has a raised aluminium roof so the building is protected from the elements but doesn't soak in the sun to create a hot inside.
